Whether it is about the heating, the lighting or the security of your home – especially in 2017, more and more young companies increasingly focus on solutions and devices to make our homes more intelligent and our lives more comfortable. We got the 3 most interesting German start-ups, focusing on the topic of smart home, you should keep an eye on in the future.
Tado – The intelligent radiator
Wouldn’t it be convenient if your radiator anticipated your thoughts and habits for example by automatically lowering the temperature if nobody is at home? Or by increasing it when you are on your way back home from work?
With the help of the Munich start-up tado, you can now turn your radiator into an intelligent smart home device.
Via a smartphone application, the tado thermostat tracks exactly where you are. If you are not at home, it decreases the temperature in your apartment. When you are on your way back from work, it increases the temperature to a desired and comfortable level as soon as you arrive home.
Via mobile application or web browser, you can control your tado device remotely.
On request, you can also create specific timetables or allow the thermostat to consider the current weather report when heating your apartment. If the weather is better than expected, tado decreases the heating temperature and lets the sun warm up your apartment.
KIWI – open your doors wirelessly
Have you ever lost your front-door key and then had to pay an expensive key service?
With KIWI that would probably not have happened to you.
For this purpose, a sensor is installed in the existing lock, which opens the lock similar to a door number.
The order, however, does not come from the counter-intercom in one of the apartments, but from the so-called Ki, a kind of radio key. You carry it with you, and as soon as you are standing in front of the front door, it jumps up. Alternatively, this even goes by a mobile application: Take out your smartphone, start the app, open your door.
In case you need it, you can also grant access through the application to friends or family members for a limited time for example in case of a visit.
And as far as the topic "lost key" is concerned: If the Ki is lost on the way, you can simply lock it. So, whoever finds the Ki does not come into the house without having accessed the application first.
Brightup – lighten up your life, the smart way
A home which knows when to turn lighting on or off, which reacts to the weather and therefore the current brightness and lets you make your home appear like somebody is in even if you are on vacation.
This smart lighting idea is exactly what the company brightup from Hamburg does for you by providing you with specific soft- and hardware solutions.
The latter initially equips the existing lamps in the apartment with an intelligent control. Therefore, you do not have to buy new lamps or bulbs at all. Via the control centre, a kind of Wi-Fi router, you can connect the brightup hardware to your smartphone. To control the lamps, turn them on and off, or dim them wirelessly from your sofa or anywhere else via their mobile application.
In the future, also other electrical devices can be connected and switched on and off, just by one click on your smartphone.
